Robin Hood BBC

First time we wanted to watch Robin Hood BBC, we all said: ''No, not Robin Hood!'', but later we liked it very much. Some of us didn't want to watch Robin Hood because of the image, but I didn't want to look it because i thaught it would be just as all the Robin Hood's we had watched. Bloody and boring. But it was just exciting and fun.
Also love the music!! I always listen to it on the computer.

Robin Hood BBC. Created by Dominic Minghella and Foz Allan. 2006.

Here are some of the characters:

Lucy Griffiths (10 October 1986) as Lady Marian of Knighton. Her father: Sir Edward of Knighton, is the formal sheriff. They live in Knighton Hall, untill Guy of Gisborne burns their house in season 2, after Marian left him at the altar. Her father is put in the dungeons and Marian stays in the castle and can't get out, because she has house arrest. I wish they did'nt kill her off in the end of season 2. It is so sad!:-(

Robin of Locksley aka Jonas Armstrong (1 January 1981). He has returned to England after five years fighting in the Third Crusade. He becomes a outlaw to help and protect the villagers, together with his gang: Little John, Much, Allan A Dale, Will Scarlett, Djaq and later Tuck and Kate. It is sad he had to die in the end.

Allan A Dale played by Joe Armstrong(7 October 1978). In the first episode, he was about to have his fingers cut off, and tries to lie himself a way out of it. He escapes, but later gets caught by the sheriff's men and has to hang. Robin and Much save him. In the second season, he betrays the gang. Robin finds out, and Allan helps the sheriff and Guy of Gisborne. At the end of season 2, he comes back to the gang. And that he died is sad too.

Sam Troughton( 21 March 1977) as Much.
Much is a formal servant of Robin Hood, but because of his services to Robin, he is no longer a servant of him. But Much still calls Robin: master. He likes food. And is very funny and a loyal friend.

Djaq, Safiya played by Anjali Jay.
Djaq is a Saracen girl using her dead brothers name as a alias. Her real name is Safiya. She knows a lot about drinks, poison, deception, disguises and other. At the end of season 2, she stays, along with Will Scarlett, in the Holy Land, with a friend of her uncle. It is a pity she doesn't come back, with Will, later in the third season.

Little John aka Gordon Kennedy(22 February 1958).
Little John is the leader of a band of outlaws in Sherwood Forest, but later joins Robin Hood's gang. In the first episode, he ties Robin, Much and Allan to a tree. Will loosens them and they tie, at their turn, Little John, Roy and some other men attached to each other. Little John has a wife, Alice, and a son, who is also named Little John.

David Harewood(8 December 1965) as Friar Tuck.
In the first episode of season 3, Tuck, a spiritual preacher, arrives in England with a boat, with the meaning to meet Robin Hood. He helps him to get over his loss, and becomes a part of the gang. He can be funny sometimes but also a little bit stubborn.

Kate played by Joanne Froggatt(23 August 1980).
Kate is a Locksley villager. Her brother, Matthew, is taken by the sherrif to become a guard. Robin Hood and his men tries to free the men, but failes. Robin pretends he is a villager, and helps them loosen their chains. Kate tells Guy of Gisbourne that Robin Hood is among the villagers, on the condition that he doesn't hurt er brother, Matthew. Robin wants to attack him with all together, but Guy of Gisbourne threatens he will kill Kate, if one of them moves. Matthew tries to rescue Kate, but is killed by Guy of Gisbourne. Kate blaims Robin. Later, she has to be with his gang, because the new tax collecter saw her along with Robin Hood's gang. The tax collecter is later killed, so Kate can return to her mother and sister. But she does not. She stays with Robin's gang and becomes a outlaw. I don't like her.

Harry Lloyd(17 November 1983) as Will Scarlett.
Will lives with his father and his brother, Luke in Locksley. He is about to be hanged, but Robin and Much save him. He becomes one of their gang. His father and his brother go to Scarborough, where they will be safe. Later, Will meets his father and brother again, when they are trapped in one of the traps of Robin's gang. His father is killed by the sherrif's men, on the sherrifs order, when he says that there is no pestulance, but that the villagers are poisoned.

Sherrif Vazey aka Keith Allen (2 September 1953).  He is the new sherrif of Nottingham. The sherrif plots to kill King Richard as leader of the Black Knights, who wish to place Prince John on the throne. The sherrif constantly tries to kill or capture Robin and his outlaws for interfering in his scheme to take over England. On Robin's birthday, the sherrif goes to the Holy Land, together with Guy of Gisborne. The sherrif hears from Guy of Gisborne that Marian is the Nightwatchman, after she tried to kill him. He takes Marian with him. Later, in season 3, Guy of Gisborne stabs him, and Gisborne thinks he killed the sherrif, but in the last two episodes the sherrif comes back with a whole army and Byzantine fire. The castle explodes, with him in it. He is very funny, but also cruel.

Guy of Gisborne played by Richard Armitage (22 August 1971). He is the sherrif's second in command, and has a hold over Marian. He often puts Marian in a difficult position, even forced her to marry him. She says yes, under duress. But at the altar, she leaves him. Guy of Gisborne is very mad about this, and burns her house. In the last episode of season 2, he kills Marian. By killing the sherrif for Prince John, he becomes sherrif. But only briefly. Isabella uses her influence to replace him and puts Gisborne in prison. Gisborne works together with Robin to take revenge on Isabella. He is stabbed by the sherrif and Isabella at the end of the last episode of season 3.

Lara Pulver (1 September 1980) as Isabella of Gisborne.
Isabella is the younger sister of Guy of Gisborne, whom he had married off to a man for the money. She ran away from her husband and is haunted by his men. She meets Robin and helps him through the castle. When she discovers that Robin does not want to realiza their dream, she gets angry. She asks Archer to set a trap. But it failed ultimately because Archer regrets that he did it. Like the sherrif, she was in the castle when it exploded.
I do not like her at all!!

Prince John aka Toby Stephens (21 april 1969).
Prince John wants to take over the throne from his brother, King Richard. He appears in three episodes of season 3, succesfully exploiting the rift between Gisborne and the sherrif. He is such a...drama king. Like on the picture right from the script.

The End.

  1. I love BBC's Robin Hood! It was so much fun : ) However, I agree with you, I HATED Kate! She was winy, annoying and childish. They were trying to create another Marian and failed miserably.

  2. Yes, I feel exactly the same! I really DO NOT LIKE Kate!
Marian could never be replaced by someone else!
Robin Hood BBC is my favorite tv-series, together with Downton Abbey of course. Only I like the third season less. Robin doesn't smile anymore, now I think of it. I didn't even noticed that before. At the end, he smiles so happy. Not the ''I am great'' smile ;-)
Still, I wish they didn't kill Marian.
